Patrons praise "the most elegant hotel in Pittsburgh", a "grand old", "historic" institution in a "fantastic Downtown location" on Mellon Park that's "beautifully updated" with "spacious" rooms sporting "modern" details; "impeccable" service, a "dining experience par excellence" in a restaurant with "opulent decorative touches" and "reasonable prices" make this "really the only place to stay" in town.

Beautiful location for downtown events.
Room size was small in comparison similar quality hotels.

This is a beautiful example of a historic downtown hotel. The public areas were beautiful decorated for the holidays. The staff was kind and demonstrated an attention to detail.

Location, staff and the
beauty of facility.
Nothing.

This hotel continues to provide top satisfaction to me, the casual senior traveler. The staff was very helpful in recommending Light Up Night Festivities. The valet parking staff was great too. Just a wonderful place to stay. ...read more

Fascinating high ceilings and architecture.
For the scale of this hotel there was
no air conditioning.

This hotel was absolutely beautiful but what really ruined it for me was the fact that there is no air conditioning in this hotel. Just air. Hallways, rooms and no AC! You don't get that cool, refreshing feel when you enter. Any place (except old farmhouses, maybe)! Also, the parking situation is horrible. At least, validate the parking tickets so that it's free to park since you have to walk from the underground satellite parking lot across the street. Even your local Motel 6 would do this! All in all, for the price I paid I can't complain too much but, if I had paid full price for this hotel I would be very upset. ...read more

The old world charm of the lobby.
The room felt a little small and the TV was to right of bed.

The lobby is without a doubt one of the nicest I've seen. Despite its formality, it is a relaxing place to sit, watch what's going on and enjoy afternoon tea, which is a bargain at under $20. The restaurant is also very elegant but did not seem to be heavily frequented. The rooms are smaller than I would have expected in this category of hotel but beds are comfortable and the bathroom was well appointed. ...read more

The room was a little smaller than I would have liked.

Very clean, nice amenities and great location, I will definitely stay there again.

The bathroom was comfortable and clean.
The beds were too soft and pillows too big for a good sleep.

Cleanliness, decor, comfortable bed, quiet. Parked our car in the garage across the street which was very reasonable in comparison to other lots.
The room was very small but adequate for a one night stay.
